Full–$15.00pp *
You have finished your first draft and now need to focus on readability, gaining your readers’ trust and getting them coming back for more. During a full line edit, I will work through your work, paying attention to flow, clarity, and consistency, while keeping your voice intact.

Mini–$300.00 (5,000 word max)
You are comfortable with the structure of your piece, but want some guidance. Using examples from your work, I will provide a detailed document addressing possible issues and suggesting remedies that you can then choose to implement throughout your work.

Line editing includes attention to the following elements:

  • Clarity
  • Spelling, grammar, syntax, and punctuation
  • Dialogue
  • Readability
  • Formatting recommendations

Copyedit

Light Edit–$4.00pp *
            I will—

  • Correct faulty spelling, grammar, and punctuation
  • Correct incorrect language usage
  • Check specific cross references
  • Ensure consistency in spelling, hyphenation, numerals, fonts, and capitalization
  • Check for proper sequencing

Light editing does NOT involve interventions in formatting.

Medium Edit–$6.00pp *
            Includes all the above and—

  • Attending to formatting issues
  • Flagging inappropriate figures of speech
  • Tracking continuity and querying discrepancies
  • Ensuring previews, summaries, etc. reflect content
  • Enforcing consistency in style and tone
  • Changing passive voice to active voice, if requested
  • Flagging ambiguous and incorrect statements
  • Type marking

Heavy Edit–$8.00pp *
            Includes all of the above and—

  • Eliminate wordiness, triteness, and inappropriate jargon
  • Smooth transitions and move sentences to improve readability
  • Suggest and sometimes implement additions and deletions, noting them at sentence and paragraph level

Proofreading–$3.00pp *

This is prepublication quality control; your work has already been copyedited and needs a final tidy up of any mechanical errors that may have evaded previous rounds of edits, formatting, etc.

Samples

            Subject to availability in my schedule, I am happy to provide you with a sample of my proofreading/editing service. The price is a flat fee of $50.00 for a sample of no more than 1,000 words.

*All rates noted above are based off 2018 average rates found online (e.g.,Writers Market) and assume standard quality text of 250 words per page and are for informational purposes only.

There is no one size fits all when it comes to any proofreading or editing project, but as a rule I charge by the page, not the hour, and as long as you are patient and accepting of the additional time more difficult text can take, I do not charge extra. I have several brilliant people in my life who have had to deal with life under the unique perceptions of Dyslexia and other learning differences and I refuse to allow my service to be another obstacle in getting those voices heard. The same also applies to those whose first language is not English. As much as I love language and words, my clients are also just as important to me. Talk to me about your needs, almost anything is up for negotiation.

Before providing a free quote, the following information will be required:

  • Page and word count
  • Proposed schedule, both to start and finish the project
  • Services needed
  • Project details
  • A representative sample

Rates can be fixed at per word, per page, per hour, etc. depending on your preference and after discussion.
Upon initiating a contract, a booking fee of 10% of the contract quote will need to be deposited. This fee will be deducted from the final invoice.
